Hello and welcome!
I’ve made up stories for as long as I can remember. It all began on the little red timeout bench in the hallway of the house I grew up in. To say I spent a lot of time there might be an understatement. I made up tales to keep myself entertained during exile. As I got older, I wrote poetry and anything more involved than that constituted schoolwork. My writing was encouraged in high school, but I stubbornly went in another direction.
In 2000, I entered a poetry contest and my poem, My Heart’s Song, was chosen to be in the anthology America at the Millennium, International Library of Poetry, Watermark Press which has also been published online at Poetry.com. But, it was still years later that I would tackle more.
I set my long-suppressed muse free in June of 2010 with a story that was sparked by a song. I put down the first words of that story and with the tutelage and encouragement of a writer’s coach and their writing group, finished my first manuscript in September of 2011. This novel, Wayward, is in the revision process, which I hope to have finished in 2013. I’ve discovered my masochistic side, and subject myself to two critique partners and a local critique group weekly, to help polish my novel and work toward publication.
One of my fellow critique junkies sent out an e-mail to the group about a contest at Darker Times Fiction. I decided that I would try my hand at that as I had recently had some luck in a local short story contest. I entered in September of 2012 and won, with the story No Lights. The next month, I entered a second short called Pay the Piper, which garnered a runner up. Both of these were published in the Darker Times Anthology Volume One, available on Amazon.com.
I sat out November, but entered again in December with two stories, Dark & Stormy Night, which won, and The Grave Digger, capturing an honorable mention. These two are available in the Darker Times Anthology Volume Two.
My greatest accomplishments are my two outstanding children, Dillon and Cassidy. They are my biggest fans and I am theirs. I live in Littleton, Colorado at the edge of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
